Just my thoughts....
Is it just me?

Hey computer users. I have a problem, was wondering if anyone else is seeing it, or has any suggestions? Only happens at WC, btw.

When on WinCustomize forums, you can mouse over a topic and get a small preview of that topic, well, mine aren't going away.

I have to close IE 11 and reopen it to get rid of it.   Windows 8.1 MCE 64 bit.

Even stays on the desktop with IE minimized. And the bad part is, I don't have to hover over the topic to get this popup. All I need to do is have my cursor pass over it. It happens on it's own.

Help....

It's IE 11. I had the same problem especially with pop up boxes that you add information in. Boxes didn't have boarders or title bars. Also all my buttons at the top of my keyboard didn't work. So I used the Refresh My PC command and put my laptop back to the way I got it and happily it saved all my files and folders. I saw no difference between 8 and 8.1.

Oh and another thing with 8.1 the laptop took a long time to boot up. Now that I went back to 8 it boots real fast.

There are a few differences, but minor ones.

Too bad IE 11 is what I'm stuck with if using Windows 8.1. It did fix my problem with double previews on WC.

Looks like they will have to look into it at WC, doing it here too on Windows 8.1. Coding change time!

Now I'm glad I didn't go there. Was going to upgrade Susan's to 8.1 but not now.

For the record, putting WC in compatibility view fixes the popup problem, but brings back double previews.

They're not double previews. They're incorrectly rendered reflections.

I'll never understand why people adopt products early, when they're most problematic while abandoning OSs like W7 which are perfectly good. I can't stand W8, so 8.1 is probably MOTS.

Next OS? iOS or Linux.

We beta test for Stardock, don't we? I have run every Windows OS beta/preview since XP. Nothing wrong with using a new release OS and sharing your findings, it actually can help with development.

Some of us haven't abandoned 7, but dual boot with 8/8.1.

OK, so incorrectly rendered reflections, you say. Why don't they exist in IE9?

Either way, you say tomato, I say tomahto.

Exactly. Well said.

Some of us don't. I haven't used Stardock software in years.

Well, most of the people that frequent these forums do use Stardock software.

I have to agree with you Doc , I tried the Win 8.1  Preview, and initially I thought it was going to be o.k. , but then I was finding myself doing extra work just to navigate, and there were tiny glitches here and there that were popping up , so all in all ,it made me ask myself  "What are you doing ?"  Windows 7 was perfectly fine with none of these issues, so why abandon a perfectly good, if not better , system?  So I'm back on Win7 now and my smile has returned. Doubt that I will be making the switch anytime soon , (if ever )      -- Ace --

You "Beta test" everything you use, every day.

There's no 'end product' until a program is abandoned. Updates/fixes/patches only mean RTM is a slightly more finished Beta.

I see no point in supporting an OS which is inconvenient to use. Next? W9 - can only be used standing on your head, singing its praises while deluding yourself you're in New Zealand.

OS's are meant to make computing easy and productive. W8/8.1 do neither until altered to look and work like W7. For MS, it seems success means going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm (W. Churchill)...and there's something ineffably sad about that.

Also, Doc, we skinners need to have the new OS if we want to skin for it. Helps immensely.

on Oct 19, 2013

I suppose, Jim. I doubt anyone could sell enough skins to compensate for the cost of looking and using that OS.

For me, it's crap to be avoided. I wouldn't have it were they giving it away.
