It's actually a MS offer last I heard.  Instead of giving people the free upgrade in advance they're making it a 'bonus offer.'

Which definitely makes sense for them especially given how popular 7 is and 8 so far isn't.

They would have to pay me a lot more than $14.99 to switch from Windows 7.

on Jun 02, 2012

That's the standard upgrade 7 to 8... and not clear is 'clean' install. TBNT.

Is $15.01 enough? It might be all they can afford if Win8 goes poof!

Already Windows 8 ? I must have overslept

on Jun 02, 2012

Well, now maybe if they sold me Windows8 for $14.99 and gave me the new hardware, I might at least think about it...

on Jun 02, 2012

Windows 8 is more efficient than 7, so why would you need new hardware?  Still on XP?

on Jun 02, 2012

Wow, you guys are totally behind using Windows 7, that's 91 versions behind me! I've been using Windows 98 for ages, haven't seen a reason yet to update to Windows 2000, waiting for Windows 2013.

I remember being an early adopter of Windows XP. I was running a P3 733 with 1GB of Ram, It ran really good. There was lots of backlash because of stability issues, but Microsoft really worked hard to iron them out.

With Windows 8 coming out, it feels like Vista, or Windows ME, ALL OVER AGAIN! While Stardock has solved the start menu issue in Windows 8 its annoying that users have to do a workaround on Windows 8 just to get the desktop feel side of things back again. Simply put, you don't release a tablet style OS on a casual type environment the desktop or laptop.

Still on XP?

Ya - but what I was really saying is that they would have to give me a new machine to even get me interested in Win8, regardless of what kind of hardware I have at the moment.   I keep seeing it and I just can't get interested in it, looks like a screen full of banner ads to me.
