I don't much like my iPad, but it is thin and has 128 GB storage.  Got it in a trade deal.

The Surface was fine until I found out I can't do much with it...lol.

It won't let me put Start8 on it. Fortunately, Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 has a windows 10-like start menu.

Nope.

Hehe, that bookend option is looking more and more likely, right?

Or will you just throw it in frustration?.

That's why RT devices are going so cheap.  I was offered one for 20 bucks a year or so ago.  I declined it, though, knowing of its 'walled garden' limitations.  If I were to purchase a Surface tablet it'd have to be all or nothing.... a full Windows OS with system 32 programs   Thing is, I have my HP 2-in-1 that serves my needs as a tablet and/or laptop, so I don't really need a Surface.

Well, I did finally find something it can do!

Hooked it to the 42" HDTV in my PC shop. It seems to be good for watching The Twilight Zone on YouTube.

Still worth the 25 bux.

At the end of the day, Jim, if you can make use of the tablet and enjoy it, then the 25 bucks was well spent.  When I was offered the RT Surface for 20 bucks, I had already ordered a dual OS tablet with Windows 10 and Android, so it was not a device I needed anyway.  However, if I'd had a use or two for the RT tablet at such a low cost, I may have been tempted, despite generally preferring a full Windows device.

Currently I have 3 tablets:  The HP 2-in-1 with full Windows 10; a Teclast X80 Pro with Full Windows 10 and Android 7; an el cheapo with Android 5 on it.   I used to take the HP 2-in-1 and the Android tablet when I went out, so when I saw the dual OS one with Windows AND Android I snapped it up so's I only have to take the one tablet with me.  Besides, the HP 2-in-1 was a real tight fit in my manbag anyway.
