Yeah, WTF in Hell were you thinking? I had no chance of making it to that most memorable concert - being on Oz n' all - but I have watched the video numerous times [first on VHS then DVD, now BluRay] and wished I could have been. With Van Zant on vocals, 3 lead guitars wailing, and Artimus Pyle on drums, like WOW. Superb doesn't even do it justice, given the quality of that performance. A band that impresses me, with its ability to cover Lynyrd Skynyrd songs well, not to mention Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, etc, is Gov't Mule. If you ever get the chance, go see them, they're quite good and know how to put on a great show... IMHO, given all the live clips on You Tube I've watched.
What an ass i was hahaha...one of many asshat decisions i've made in my days..lol...but i absolutely love the old skynyrd holy shit the guitars were second to none (imho) Gaines,Collins,and Rossington were unstoppable! back in a time when music was just that, music.. no pitch correctors harmonizers ect..just raw playing great time for music as a whole... great taste in music starkers!

I actually agree with you starkers. I was a pre-Johnson AC/DC fan but cannot listen to them now. I feel the same way about Bob Dylan, he might be able to write songs but he cant sing worth shit.
One of my top 3 bands of all time and Plant still has the voice. Some say at 66 he is a better vocalist than he was 35 years ago.

I agree with you on when music was music. With a handful of exceptions, there's not a lot beyond the 80's I bother with anymore. Apart from a few older bands and artists continuing in the old vein, and some of the newer acts sticking with older, more traditional styles, I have little to no interest in the so-called music of the 2000s. Nope, I'm stuck back in the 60's 70's and earlier 80's
Yup, Johnsons vocals ruin otherwise perfectly good music. Talking about strangling the cat... that's moments after you've applied thumbscrews to its nuts and poured hot treacle on its arse.
Led Zeppelin IS my favourite band of all time, with Ten Years After a close second and Black Sabbath tying with Pink Floyd for 3rd place. I have a long list of artists and bands after that, though, and I'd be here for a month of Sundays going through it.
As for Robert Plant's vocals being better nowadays, I always thought he was awesome, right through his career with Led Zeppelin, The HoneyDrippers and hs solo period.... when he reformed with Pagey. Thing is, he STILL has it, without doubt, though he's more mature with it and better portrays a himself as a singer with great passion and feeling. I saw Robert Plant at Festival Hall Brisbane in the mid-80's and came away awestruck... he was phenomenal.
